Welcome!  It takes a tremendous amount of courage to even think of pursuing the help of a therapist.  It is important that you feel comfortable with the therapist that you've chosen to help you navigate through the relationships and life situations that may be causing you some difficulty at present.  In order to do that, I will take the liberty to tell you a bit about myself.

My name is Winnie Visser.   After high school I graduated with honours from Loyalist College, in Belleville, Ontario, from the Registered Practical Nursing program in 1981.  Working on the Psychiatric ward at Quinte Health Care, Belleville, for 15 years and prior to that for 4 years with the elderly, I learned that people were much more than their diagnoses.

I completed my Master of Divinity degree majoring in Family Systems Counselling from Tyndale Seminary in Toronto in the year 2000.  In 2005, I completed more courses with the University of Guelph, which allowed me to become a Registered Clinical Member of Ontario Association for Marriage and Family Therapy as well as a being on the Canadian Registry of Marriage and Family Therapists.

Currently, I have a private practice with offices in both Cobourg and Belleville.  I see many clients, with a variety of emotional, relational or spiritual difficulties who are either self referred, referred through doctor's offices, public agencies, churches or EAP programs.  I have also been hired as a resource person in helping Christian Reformed churches between Ajax and Kingston to better equip their congregations to minister to those dealing with mental illnesses and their families.

As humans, I believe that we are bio-psycho-socio-spiritual beings.  A neglect of any of these four parts denies a keen part of who we are as human beings.  As a client, it is your right to know that foundational to my counselling is a strong Christian faith base.  I counsel many people who share the same faith as well as many who do not.

My husband and I have been married for 27 years and we have one married daughter and three adult sons.

I also believe that as people, we have strong longings to be loved, respected and to know that we can be loved for who we are.   When our closest relationships do not affirm these longings, hope spirals down and an increased sense of discouragement can set in.  Then we begin to believe the lies that tell us life is too difficult.  It would be an honour for me to help you understand yourself in the difficulties you find yourself in.  I believe that you have been created for a purpose far greater than you understand at present.

Proverbs 12:13 reads, "Hope deferred makes the heart sick,
but a longing fulfilled is like a tree of life."

Blessings, as you discover your true potential and the unique potential Christ has created you to be!!
